  • Here are six reasons why no one ... in their right mind ... should even remotely consider renting or buying a unit at Spanish Palms ... 5250 South Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89118. 1. No one who works at Spanish Palms ... lives at Spanish Palms. What does that tell you? 2. I got some letters from the HOA. One told me the bird feeder on my balcony was "unsightly." What could be "unsightly" about a bird feeder? Are finches illegal in Vegas? Can you not feed them for their enjoyment and yours? Do these people have any idea about animal rights? 3. I also put up a fake owl to keep the pigeons from sheeting on my balcony. Fake owls are also against the rules. 4. Dogs and cats poop all over the place ... without scoopers. No one tells them to poop their dogs elsewhere. 5. I attended the June 2012 meeting of the HOA. At the end of the meeting ... one of the board members told me he would come by my place to check out the inadequate lighting leading up the stairs to my unit. He never showed up. So I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a solar-powered light that focused a beam on my stairs. One of my friends had gashed her shins on the concrete ... so I thought this was warranted. The HOA didn't. "CC&R 9.2.H Please remove the light from the common area." 6. I was assaulted in the Jacuzzi on a Sunday by an intoxicated man who was the guest of a resident. He confronted me by asking a young boy to turn off the jets so I could hear what he was sayin'. He then proceeded to tell me he was a Navy Seal and this gave him the right to decide whether I should stay in the pool area or be escorted out by him ... a stranger to me. When I attempted to leave the Jacuzzi ... he punched me on the left cheek bone. Since it was not a fatal blow ... I recovered enough to walk to the pool exit upon which he pushed me. He then stalked me to the security gate ... threatening me along the way. Security told me there was nothin' they could do. WTF? As a matter of policy ... this was something I should take up with LV Metro. So ... I called 911 and the police arrived in 20 minutes. Let me back up. Security at Spanish Palms maintains a binder which has one page for each unit. The man who assaulted me was listed as a privileged guest. What this means is he can enter the property at his free will. The resident is not notified when he arrives ... nor is the resident notified when he assaults someone. He has free reign over the entire complex ... as long as he is on "The List." (Why am I thinking ... "1984?") So ... on Monday ... I talked to Brian ... the property manager. He said he would ... "take it under consideration." What does that mean? Was he going to put it under his Linus blanket? Three weeks later I was working out in the gym. I went to Brian's office and reminded him of my experience. It took him by surprise ... like I just found out where his grandpa was buried. Brian called the security gate and told me this guy had been taken off "The List." I then went to the gate to check out whether what Brian said was true. The guard on duty told me I could not examine their records. So ... to this day ... I have no idea whether this thug could be free "cold deck" another man like me. Enough said.
