| - I experienced a very similar situation to Adam B., below. Only my tech was friendly and knowledgeable. After purchasing a groupon, I was expecting my heat/ac to be serviced to get ready for winter and prepare for summer. After looking at the indoor unit together, I am told my unit needs more servicing, a thorough cleaning and possibly a repair on the motor wiring - which I was okay with - it sounded about right. The tech left for another service call because I had to be somewhere and told him to meet me back at my place in about a half hour. He arrives back and tells me that I am pretty much pending doom. I was given a quote of approx. $4,000 to replace the entire unit. I kept my calm, but in my mind I was shocked and suspicious. I refuse to pay that much when I am not even sure it is necessary. My tech laid out all the options (which was good), but crafted it in such a way that ruled all of them out in the end and making you feel that you have no other way out. You can't trust anyone these days. I am going to get a second opinion. I slept on it and had my father and husband check the ceiling unit and they said that most likely new units arent needed and they are just trying to rip me off. Penguin Air, what a bunch of alarmists! I should just get someone I know to fix my heater and AC. I feel so foolish.
update 12/3: Like you, I was confused too about how the service call escalated, but there is no need to try and discredit my review. I, like many reviewers, use a different last name for yelp reviews - as many yelpers prefer anonymity and avoidance of confrontation, but I stand by my review. Sure, I will call you so we can begin to discuss this professionally, in private. I would be happy to explain any details and any gaps you may think are in the experience I shared. My review was fair and truthful, and I did my best to keep negativity to a minimum. I hope you reconsider my review!
