I'm a perpetual beginner when it comes to fitness. After trying Crossfit a few times at 3 other gyms I was generally dismayed at the level of attention beginners received. Very little guidance was given as to instructions for how to perform certain movements or what weight I should be attempting.
I moved back to Pittsburgh and decided to give Crossfit one more try. I found Crossfit Focus via a Google search when looking for gyms near my office in Carnegie. A young trainer named Gary took me through some of the usual movements that you get at the typical opener course when you join a gym. However, instead of a disinterested sneer as I flopped a PVC pipe around he actually gave me a couple of minutes of advice on the movements and made sure I was really doing them correctly as prescribed by the gym.
Then I started to join in the class itself. I expected the level of attention to dip from the earlier experience but it didn't. Bryan, Chris, and Gary continued to watch everyone closely and offer advice where needed. The beginners were also taken through routines to help them determine what weight they should be doing if they couldn't quite achieve the prescribed weights for the workout of the day.
The program also offers a variety for people if they choose to attend the morning classes. Not being terribly interested in lifting heavy objects I find this to be one of the best features of the gym. The mornings tend to offer a great mix of body weight/rowing/airdyne/running/jump rope centered work outs which is exactly what I'm looking for.
I've been going here off and on as my life schedule allows for a little over a year now. I've seen some of the people who started around the same time or even quite a bit after me go through some incredible transformations both fitness and physique wise.
Hands down this is the best Crossfit gym I've been to for beginners like me.
PS: It's also the cleanest gym I've ever been to.
