A local gem that I am soooo sad I didn't find sooner. I literally went three times in one week.
Chef John Chien Lee, owner and former Social House chef, is a master at his craft even after sharing a large sake (Orka ginju $60 very tasty) he didn't miss a beat. Watching the staff behind the sushi bar was like watching a well oiled machine. Nunu was to John's left (one time JJ gave Nunu the day off) and was the perfect team.
Ordered their Triple S Roll ($15 - shrimp, scallops, spicy tuna, tempura white fish and asparagus) I also ordered nigiri - octopus, spicy scallops, akodai snapper and halibut. Very fresh and not a puny cut. They also have specials not on the menu. I had their Monk Fish (yuuummmm) with ponzu sauce and taro root chips. Everything served was fresh, great portion size and reasonably priced.
The have a special dessert chef bake specifically for them My party had the Matcha Tiramisu ($7) which is a green tea soaked sponge cake (I took a picture and already posted it). The menu described a "Matcha sabayon" which when I asked John what that was - he sweetly giggled and said he didn't know. Cute. Another catch was an item on the menu described as a "field octopus." An obvious typo but also too cute.
I will be back!
