| - Best birthday gift EVER.
It's been a few days since my visit to JR and I haven't stopped thinking about it. I went with the 17 course Degustation Menu.
There wasn't a single item on any dish that I didn't absolutely love. The first course after the amuse was incredible. Le Caviar Imperial. As my server took the empty plate away he told me, "It gets better..." and he was right.
I won't go into detail about each dish but I'll just say that every bite of this tasting was heavenly. There wasn't a single item on any dish that I didn't love. The flavors and textures were out of this world, yet delicate. Definitely a meal you'll want to eat slowly so you can enjoy the subtleties and complexities of the dishes.
The restaurant itself is beautiful. It just oozes luxury. The decor, the furniture, the dishes, glassware, serving utensils, everything. The ambiance is quiet and romantic but well-lit and energetic.
Before I comment on the service, here's a little context: This was my first time dining at a place this formal. This was my first time (since I was a kid dining with my mom) dining at a French restaurant. I frequent high-end celebrity chef restaurants but this was definitely the first time dining at THIS price point. I was a little nervous that I'd go in and be the weird, awkward solo diner who doesn't know how to use the caviar spoon (this happened, actually) and can't pronounce anything on the menu (this also happened). I was sure that the staff would be pretentious and that I'd be lost. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong...
The entire staff was incredible. The host was sweet and sat me immediately. All the different servers were informative and helpful, took the time to chat with me and made absolute sure that felt comfortable and welcome. The person who really went above and beyond was Kit. Because of Kit, I had the BEST time. Not one person was pretentious or cold. Every staff member was kind, warm, attentive, and they really made me feel at home. For this, I am so grateful. Also, they gave me a tour of the kitchen. It's just as beautiful back there. I imagined it would be chaos back there but it was calm, organized, immaculate, and everyone looked like they loved their work.
The food here is incredible, no question. But the staff-- they are what makes this place worth every penny. It was so impressive to see so many people working together so beautifully. It was like watching the ballet. You know they're busting their butts but they are doing it so elegantly.
I can't WAIT to go back and try the rest of the menu.
