| - Vegas is called the 9th Hawaiian Island for a reason.... and it's because of 808 Hawaii Mixed Plate! Having just come back from a week long vacation in Hawaii, I've been feeling the withdrawal symptoms and have been overdosing on every Hawaiian restaurant in the Valley to make me feel better. After a month of testing out different places, 808 Hawaii Mixed Plate has been my favorite so far.
The restaurant isn't in the best of neighborhoods, the restaurant isn't the most sparkling clean- but this just gave it a slightly more Hawaiian feel ;) The girl at the counter wasn't the most helpful and their menu was pretty confusing. Don't forget to look down, back, side to side... They seem to have specials and mixed plate signs all over the place. Also they have a happy hour where your order is 15% off? I didn't see a sign, not sure of the time!
CHICKEN CHICKEN CHICKEN. ORDER THE CHICKEN. The furikake chicken and the katsu chicken plate were the best I've ever had. Both had very thick filets and were soft to the point they melted in your mouth. It really disappoints me when the breading is twice as thick as the piece of chicken itself, but that was not the case here. So much chicken, so much flavor, perfect amount of breading (for the katsu).
The garlic mahi mahi was okay, but I think the chicken is where they shine. The mac salad was good, but had chunks of potatoes in it which made it not only feel thick, like mac salad usually feels to me, but also heavy. It was good, but hard to take more than a couple of bites!
I love mom and pop shops and I love seeing owners interacting with customers or even working in booths inside the restaurant rather than in the back. It always gives it a more family- feel. I'll for sure be back!
