Oh man. We got Wolfgang Pucked. I love Jose Andres. I love authentic Mexican & Chinese. This was not a good fusion. Like the decor but the small benches were not comfy after a day of deadlifts. In order, lamb pot stickers--decent. Juicy insides needed a fruit base or vinegar dipping sauce. The crunchy "lid" was flavorless. Next a squash salad with sweet peanut and plum sauce. Super bland unless you pile every component on the fork. Then Chile green bean noodles. Those were yummy with the pickled daikon radishes. Next skirt steak mole. Please! Where is all the great mole in the city?? We have a huge Mexican community. This was deep & smokey with Chinese spices but maybe a crema sprinkle. I don't know! They were so close. That wasn't too bad and dinner was looking up. And I was halfway through a mezcal old fashioned. GREAT drink.
We picked 3 tacos. Duck tongue, carnitas, fish. Uhm. The first two were just okay but the fish we so dry I didn't finish it. The sauce was sparse. I mean, come on, tacos need to drip or have enough flavor the separate elements don't taste better than the whole.
The subtly of blending two power house cooking styles can be done and maybe we were on the down swing of an old menu. The service was lovely & wait staff friendly.
It was a bummer. Go to Bazaar at SLS for Jose at his finest (charcuterie).
