I was with this company for 5 years and finally had the last straw with them last week. I called on a Friday about my bill going up $10.00. After almost an hour on the phone with this woman I got new discounts for the year and was told to call back in January 2016 to renew them. A couple days later I find that my service went from 25MB/sec to 10MB/sec. I did a speed test and called tech support on Sunday. They re-confirmed I was at 10MB/sec.
Just an FYI. When they tell you the speeds it's in MB but you actually get mb which is 1/10th the speed. For a 25MB line you will get 2.5mb/sec download speeds and usually not even 1mb/sec upload speeds. It's all BS and it doesn't matter if it's Verizon, Cox or Centurylink. They aren't telling you the true speeds.
So I make my call on Monday to find out why my account got downgraded. This older woman said she could get me back to 25MB. One, it would take 3-5 days. Two, the cost would be $74.00 a month. Three, a tech would need to come out and I would need to pay for that as well. My response was that it didn't take 3-5 days to screw up my speed, the cost is $30.00 more than what I was paying and since I had 25MB why in the hell did I have to have a tech come out. It's just a matter of flipping a switch. I called Cox and got double my 25MB speed for $50.00 a month for a year then $60.00 a month after that. Still below what Centurylink was going to offer after their screw up.
I called back and told the guy I wanted to close my account effective Friday. Of course, I got this line of BS about how wonderful I was as a customer. He escalated the call and put me on hold. When he came back he said that they were the cause of the problems and would correct it at no cost to me. In the middle of this call my internet goes down and I can't even get to Yahoo home page. It turns out they shut off my service before the call was even done. I told the guy "and you wonder why I'm closing my account".
Avoid Century link like the plague.
