| - I remember coming to Mad Mex consistently as a kid, but I recently came here with a date when he could not believe that I hadn't been to a Mad Mex in years. It is just as good as my childhood memories made me believe it was.
I played it safe and got the Mad Mex Burrito with shrimp ($9.50). What I love about Mad Mex is that they don't charge different amounts for shrimp versus chicken. I am not a huge meat eater so this makes it worth the slightly higher price tag for me. The burrito is packed with rice, black beans, and cheese, and the size is huge. I love the square pocket shape with the super soft tortillas. The salsa and lettuce on the outside was a bit unappetizing looking so I avoided it. The chips and salsa ($3.75) we ordered at the beginning had much better salsa.
While we did not come during happy hour, I did get a small strawberry margarita. It was one of the best flavored margaritas I have had, and the price was reasonable. The happy hour specials are killer, though, if you want a drink.
The atmosphere is really loud, especially if you are on the floor. The balcony area is quieter, but if you are coming to watch a game on TV, make sure to sit on the floor since you cannot see the TVs from the balcony. The service is nothing more than adequate, but it is fine for a relaxed dinner.
Overall, I am ready to reincorporate Mad Mex into my life.
