So my 2 year old toddler has been sick with whatever nasty virus has been going around for 5 days. And we wouldn't have brought him in to any medical facility had he not gotten worse yesterday. He spiked a fever suddenly, had this dry heaving barking cough and just laid around all day. His eyes were so droopy, he looked like a zombie all day.
Naturally as a mother of a young one, I was worried.
I called the nearest urgent care and they were closing soon but also told me they didn't have a doctor on call. Only a PA. They recommended that I bring him to an ER because they would have an actual doctor on call.
So I called this place. It's new and the closest ER to us. The receptionist that answered listened to the symptoms I told her and recommended that I bring him in especially since he's young. She also said there was no one in the waiting room.
I brought my son in pretty shortly after. Same receptionist was there to greet us and had us fill out some paperwork. She was super friendly and nice. Lobby was nice and clean.
It was all great until the medical assistant came and got us. His name is Evan. He took my son's weight and height then brought us into a room where he proceeded to tell me basically to not use the word lethargic and that my son was definitely not lethargic. I apologized and just said that his energy and appetite level has drastically decreased and he is just miserable and has a hard time breathing and coughing/dry heaving badly. Evan then continued to ask why we were there. Why we didn't go to an urgent care instead. He said cold and flu symptoms are not usually seen at ER's. So I told him my spiel about what the urgent care told me. He then just kind of shrugged his shoulders and continued on with his work.
Evan- thanks for making me feel even more sh*tty than I already did because I was only a concerned parent. Do you think any parent wants to bring their child to an ER? With the flu that's going around, I've only heard advice saying to go see a doctor and to not hesitate! So thank you for making me feel stupid coming in to see you guys. Thanks for lecturing me about the correct usage of the word lethargic.
The doctor we saw was Dr. Bacon. He wasn't anything enthusiastic either. Kind of just a monotone-ish type of being. He didn't seem to happy to see us there either.
The only thing positive about this place was the nurse and x-ray tech that helped us. They were very friendly and made my son feel a lot better about being there.
My son ended up being diagnosed with pneumonia and an ear infection and is on antibiotics now. He seems to be in better spirits today.
