Popular eatery right across the street from the WI state capital. It's always a good sign when the place is packed and there is a wait. We waited for about 15 minutes and they paged us via cell phone.
The menu has some great options as well as daily specials. It seems many items are locally sourced and they were featuring a BLT made with local tomatoes. I love a good farm-to-table restaurant. Of course we had to get the fried cheese curds even though this goes against most of my eating principles, but hey, this is Wisconsin and it's mandatory to eat cheese curds! They were delicious.
For my entree I ordered a local trout over a bed of spinach. The fish is served whole: head and everything - this may scare some people like it did my dinner companion. However it was very good and fresh. I have to say that the spinach was WAY overdressed with the sauce. So much so that I could not eat it. Too much sauce!
The Old Fashioned also features beer from 150 Wisconsin breweries, which is cool.
If you are ever near the WI state capital give The Old Fashioned a try.
