I've been coming to this La Paloma since I was a kid and I really feel there has been a steady decline of quality over the years. While I still enjoy getting gelato here (summers are all about that kiwi gelato), I feel it is no longer worth the price and there are other places in the city that provide a better experience.
I took a friend here the other day. I got the blackberry and mango flavors, he had pistachio and banana. They were all flavorful and enjoyable except for the blackberry, which tasted of fridge slightly. I was not a fan. It's a nice place to come to because I live in the area, but as I said, there is better gelato to be had elsewhere.
I don't quite understand the other couple of reviews saying the service is probably better if you're Portuguese because this isn't a Portuguese-run business. (Trust me, I'M Portuguese and they don't treat me any differently.) The service isn't anything special but they aren't rude either. Just remember to bring cash with you, order at the back and make your way to the display case up front with your ticket in hand. It's best to come in the summer when they are producing all of their flavors, but there is usually a long line.
