| - I'm going to go out on a limb and give Valle Luna four stars.
Why? Because I like their thin-cut chips and spicy bean dip, lakeside dining and sea bass that comes with a unique concoction of sauteed vegetables, rice and decent jalapeno lime cream sauce.
The best menu item I've ordered (which I coincidentally don't order anymore because I fear the calories) is the South of the Border pollo sandwich. The chicken is soft, flavorful, and the green chile slice gives it a true southwestern ring. Make sure you get the requisite avocado slices.
One complaint is the drink prices - unless you sit in the (usually busy) bar side of the restaurant, a semi-decent margarita might run $7 or $8. I guess I'm spoiled, paying $3 for a margarita at Salty Senoritas.
Sometimes, I've felt the service was a little under par. A lack of warmth and friendliness, maybe? But most of the waiters/hostesses are young and perhaps don't consider this a career, so I don't blame them for not being perky.
I should note - my family loves this place, and they tend to be picky about Mexican food and atmosphere. Considering the other reviews I've seen about Valle Luna, I'm not sure why my family is so entranced with it. But it has become our hangout each time I'm in the southeast Valley.
