| - I was looking for a place to repair a zipper on a pair of tall knee high boots that I love and have had for years. The Squirrel Hill shoe repair wasted my trip there to tell me they couldn't do it. I called ahead to this place and left a message asking if they would. They actually called me back the next day, and left a message saying they could fix it! Yay!
I drove down there the day before thanksgiving, downtown had a touch of traffic and construction, but I parked in the pay for parking zone, close to the shop, on the street, and ran over.
There were two men inside. One was the older guy who called me on the phone. He slowly looked the boots over and quoted me $35.00 to replace the zipper and clean them up. They had a touch of white mold growing on them hat I haven't been able to buff off.
I asked how long it would take and he told me about a week and a few days. He gave me a green ticket stub with my special number on it, and told me to pay cash when I pick up. I asked him if he needed my phone number at all, but he said no... that's when the other guy chimed in with some unsolicited flirt about how he'd take my number... I don't know if that guy works there or what, but I assume so because he was also there when I picked up the boots.
I gave him two weeks to be safe, and then rolled up to pay for them. He replaced the zipper and shined them up, which is awesome. I am still worried the white mold might come back, but we'll see. The important thing for me was the zipper.
Also, when I showed up, ready to pay, he changed the price to $50, saying it took more work than originally quoted. He's lucky I showed up with that amount of cash, but I would have liked to have been warned. Whatever, it was still worth it for me. He put my boots in this Talbots bag (shown in the picture), so I had a carrying device.
I took one star off for the surprise price and the unwanted flirt harassment.
