| - My husband and I recently traveled to Phoenix for a weekend. We were under time restraints and had a difficult time finding an available hotel that allowed pets for little to no cost. We debated between this hotel, which was just under $100/night with no charge for pets, or other hotels which seemed much nicer, but were more expensive and charged $100+ for us to bring along our 2 small dogs. We figured we wouldn't spend much time in the hotel room, so just decided to book this hotel room. Looking back, had I known what I would have experienced, we probably would have shelled out a little extra cash to go somewhere else.
We arrived in Phoenix on a Friday. The front desk representatives were friendly and helpful, which I appreciated, but unfortunately we were told there were no bottom floor hotel rooms available. This proved to be quite the hardship considering the hotel does not offer an elevator, we had tons of luggage and two dogs to pack up the stairs, and I have bad knees. The representative told me I should have called before check in and asked for a 1st floor room, and if I had known I had to, or that no elevator was available, I would have. It took us a good 6-8 trips between my husband and I just to get settled into the hotel room. During our trips up the stairs, I saw many 1st floor rooms that were empty and available, so I have reason to believe they were probably keeping these reserved for people who booked with them longer than just a couple days.
The room itself was fair. The bed seemed like a true king size, and the pillows and blankets seemed clean and soft. There was plenty of room in the bathroom to keep our dogs' kennel and dog food, which was nice. There was a separate little room where the toilet and shower were, which I found to be extremely small and claustrophobic. The shower curtain that was on the shower only went halfway down to the floor, so needless to say, water went everywhere when we showered. We ended up having to lay towels all over the floor to soak up all the water afterwards, and had to ask for additional towels. I wouldn't necessarily say the room was dirty, but it certainly wasn't clean either.
On our last day, we decided to grab something from the free breakfast they offer before we headed back home. I believe the breakfast serving time ends at 10:30 in the morning. We headed down right around 10:20, and breakfast was still being served. My husband and I both waited in line. Suddenly one of the staff members cut right in front of me, and took the remaining food and left. I thought this was extremely rude, especially because he saw we were still in line. The breakfast didn't seem to be all that great anyway- a couple cereals, bagels, and muffins, and that was about it. We didn't miss out on much.
Lastly, and probably my biggest complaint, is had I know that this isn't a very good area, I definitely would not have booked this hotel. The moment we pulled into the parking lot, I had my hesitations just from the looks of it. Throughout our stay, I constantly felt unsafe when we were out walking the dogs at night. Many of the people that were staying here seemed sketchy, and reeked of pot.
If I had the choice, I wouldn't stay here again.
