| - I've been coming to this place fairly regularly for the past 5+ years. Got a number of services here and NEVER left unsatisfied.
The place takes appointments and walk-ins, but I would recommend booking ahead of time, since they do get quite busy and you will likely have to wait for a walk-in. The staff at the front desk (usually an older woman), while not fluent in English or especially friendly, is still pleasant enough and will offer you a juice box while you wait :D (once, she even offered me and my friend a Korean pastry snack)
There are usually at least 7-8 or so hair stylists working at a time. Although none of them are super fluent in English (most speak either Korean or Japanese), they make a good effort to understand what you want (pictures usually help though, and I would recommend bringing some.) That being said, they have always done a good job on my hair and accomodate all my requests if I want them to trim a little more or fix up certain areas. I have also gotten my hair dyed here and gotten two different types of perms on different occasions (a chemical perm and a digitial perm) and was pleased with the results every single time. I don't even have a particular stylist who I request, I just go with whoever is readily available at the time, and still no complaints.
The price for a haircut is pretty standard I think for a higher quality Asian place, and could even be considered on the lower end ($30 for women). A full dye job and/or perm could easily put you over $100, with a digital perm over $200. However, you are paying for the quality of service here, and I would much rather shell out the cash for a good experience here rather than pay $10 for a terrible haircut and traumatizing experience somewhere else (it HAS happened to me before.) I don't live anywhere close to the area and will willingly make the journey to Maya's even if there is a torrential downpour (again, I have done this before) so I highly recommend checking this place out (and grabbing some conveniently located and delicious Korean food along the way!)
Tip: It's cash only, but there is a BMO conveniently located across the street and a TD located on the street near Bathurst.
