  • I was in the Christie/Bloor area and decided to get a haircut from Maya Hair Salon. I also read previous reviews and most people said they had a good experience. I called to make an appointment a couple hours before my visit and the lady on the phone was very nice. The place was on the 2nd floor of a building. When I was got there, I immediately felt cramped because there were just a lot of people (customers plus hair dressers) in a tiny area. This was at around 6:30pm on a Saturday evening. I was "greeted" by a really rude lady, who rudely asked me for my name and time of appointment. Not sure who she was, but she was constantly sweeping the floor...perhaps the owner? She told me to wait in the seating area and then proceeded to take my coat and gave me the locker key and a juice box. There were constantly people coming in and out and I guess they really have a lot of customers. After a good 10 minute wait, the assigned hair dresser took me to her spot and asked me how I wanted my hair cut. She also gave me some suggestions, which I liked. I noticed that a lot of the hair dressers there were Japanese because they were speaking Japanese to the customers and they all seemed nice. The hair cut took about 25 minutes and Mari (my hair dresser) did a good job. I was satisfied with the result. Nothing too dramatic. I had only wanted a trim anyway. The price of the hair cut was $30 (no shampoo, but blow dry a little at the end to make it look more presentable) and $35 (with shampoo). I don't know if I will come back again. I think I'll try another hair salon if I was in the area again.
