| - Where do I start in expressing my dissatisfaction with this company?
I was given their name through a referral by a couple who is currently having Desert Springs do a ground up build at their home. I contacted Desert Springs to give me an estimate/quote on redoing a water feature - demoing the current one thats a mess and reimagining it to fit my taste, with a new waterfall, natural stone.
They send out the estimator, Pat. He looks at the current situation for a few minutes, asks me a handful of questions then asks me what I am thinking I will spend. When I let him know what i was thinking, He blurted out "20k". When I inquired how he came up with that number, he responded by saying that he's being doing this for 40 years. When I asked for the bid in writing for my records he refused. He didn't bother to see if a rock guy and concrete stamper could come out and eye ball the job and given the specs I provided, offer me a realistic quote with actual time and materials involved in the proposed scope of work.
I just got off the phone with Mike G who is in charge of this department. I was told that that is just how the guy sells and he is free to do his own thing. So ponder that for a moment. They have no stardardized methodology or base line expectations for their sales man. Each one is a rogue Maverick just out there throwing numbers based on who knows what.
When I asked why I couldnt get the estimate in writing they said that I had "asked for a bunch of numbers." I mean yes. Yes I did ask for a bunch of numbers when I was about to spend $20,000 based on a guys 3 minute assement of my property. Is that uncommon?
Who does business like this?
My recommendation - call Ozzie Kraft and be treated with respect.
If you like brass, inconsiderate, uncaring companies doing work in and around your home, these guys are for you!
