  • I just got back to town after renting a mini van for our trip to Florida. We were told that we could add my mother in law as a driver at any of the Hertz locations along the way to Florida since she wasn't with us at the time of rental. I was told that since I had AAA it wouldn't be an issue to add her on. We left that night and were trying to get to Paducah, KY for the first leg of our trip. We ended up getting stuck in a horrendous hail storm and had to stop in Marion, Illinois because I couldn't see but a foot in front of the car. The van's wipers were horrible and didn't work at all. I didn't feel safe in the slightest. In the morning we tried to go to a Hertz dealer in Marion to get my mother in law added and to find out about the wiper ordeal. I was told they couldn't help me and that to add my mother in law on as a driver it would be an additional $13.50 PER DAY! I was never told of a fee, and how ridiculous is that cost? We were adding her on so we would be more safe by having more AWAKE drivers. Needless to say we didn't add her on. I was also informed that they wouldn't do anything about the vehicle or the wipers and that I needed to contact emergency road assistance to get them to replace the wipers. I didn't have the luxury of time to wait around for the roadside assistance for a NON emergency issue, so I just purchased the wipers and installed them myself. To add insult to injury, during the entire trip, the car listed to the right because the alignment was out of whack and the brakes and rotors didn't work well at high speeds. We always came to a very bumpy stop when on the highway, pretty sure the rotors needed replacing or being ground down. I don't understand how I could pay SO much for this rental to be given a car that isn't roadworthy for a long road trip. We returned with 62000+ miles on the vehicle and noticed that the oil change was well past the 53000 mileage that it was due for. It's a good thing the car didn't overheat while we were driving.
