  • We made an appointment at this post office for our four month old infant to get his passport. We arrived fifteen minutes early (we were asked to arrive ten minutes early, but we were hoping to get in and out quickly) and were the third scheduled appointment of the day, so we thought they would not be too backed up. We waited for about twenty minutes and were called up, just a few minutes past our appointment time. As soon as the postal worker had all of our paperwork laid out (and it is a LOT of paperwork for a baby's first passport), the Post Master came out and told the employee that we would just have to wait and she needed to tend to the line first. She could have spoken to us but instead chose to not even look at us or address us but talk ABOUT us just like two feet away from us at the counter where we were being helped. The employee looked uncomfortable, apologized, and put our paperwork back together. Another twenty minutes went by and my baby was getting restless and hungry. As I was feeding him on a dinge-y chair in there, the Post Master came out from the back and I politely asked if she could help some people in the passport line now, as there were five of us waiting. I tried to explain that my baby was too young to get the flu shot and really shouldn't be around all of these people but as I tried to engage her, she opened a door and started to walk to the back, where I was not permitted to go. I was so taken aback! I am a true believe that you catch more bees with honey and I was trying to be really nice. I know that government jobs like this can be difficult but I couldn't believe she did not address me a second time! I asked, "is that yes?" while she walked to the back and I heard a response saying a few minutes. Over an hour after our scheduled appointment, we were finally able to get our paperwork done. It took about eight minutes total, which was honestly just as long as any of the people waiting in line with packages took at the front. The Post Master came out and finally addressed us, saying sorry it took so long, that a few things were out of order that morning. It took everything in me to just say, "that must be difficult." I didn't say it was okay and excuse her behavior, because honestly, it was offensive. But I did appreciate that she finally addressed me. I wish she would have honored our appointment time or considered that we had a baby with us. The experience was very frustrating. But the employee who helped us was just great. Two stars for the great work of the employee and for the apology, although it really was too little too late.
