  • I'm new to the world of professional massage therapy, which I honestly wish I tried earlier because I have mild sclerosis. Alongside my sclerosis, I do a job that requires me to be at a desk all day, so these two stressors result in my back and shoulder muscles needing constant TLC. I found Step Up Massage & Rehab through Yelp and was amazed by how it has frequent, positive reviews, most of which are 4-5 stars. I've been here twice for a 30 minute massage, and let me tell you, Step Up is bomb! For my two visits, I had different therapists and both were wonderful in their technique. Gillian provided a more relaxing massage with light-to-medium pressure and Carol provided a high-pressure deep tissue massage (apparently she specializes in Shiatsu, so it makes sense!). It seems each therapist has their own preference for the amount of pressure they use, but all of them will ask you throughout the massage to let them know if the pressure is too soft/strong and they'll adjust accordingly. Some of these therapists are petite, but don't underestimate their strength! Although my experiences with each of these therapists were different, I can assure you that both did a phenomenal job in getting rid of the knots in my shoulders and back. The pain pretty much vanished. The results were almost identical, so don't worry too much about the pressure. Just ensure it's within your comfort level and to receive guidance from the therapist along the way. Communication is key and these RMTs are excellent communicators! By the way, if you don't immediately feel muscle relief after the session, don't fret! This happened to me once out of the two visits. During that visit, I only felt a little muscle relief immediately after the massage, but literally 1 hr after my massage all the tension in my back zapped away - like magic! All I can say is to be patient when this happens. Step Up is my go-to for massage therapy. I'll be returning for more massages and possibly even some chiropractic sessions. Pros: - Clean - You can do same-day appointments - Easy to book online or over the phone - Receptionists are hyper-responsive and friendly - Direct billing if you're covered by insurance - There are two receptionists now, so you'll always receive support - You can pay by credit card, debit, and cash if you're not covered - Yes, they also have tap for you Google Pay/Apple Pay people - Therapists are excellent communicators who will keep up a conversation with you during your session - Therapists encourage you to tell them your concerns before and during the sessions - Therapists will adjust the pressure and the areas of focus to accommodate your needs (they're all very strong, albeit some being petite!) - Therapists are highly knowledgeable and will provide advice on a whole slew of muscle-related topics - If you're not a new client and you already provided your insurance information once, you won't have to do it again (it's on file) - Hot towel is placed over you after the massage - Relaxing music is played during the massage Cons: - I can't really think of anything, except for the fact that it's a little more difficult than other clinics to get to because it's located within another building. This is very MINOR.
