| - With the exception of more rain (which just seems to be a persistent thing on the first day of the festival), the Ribfest is just as good as ever.
I attended the Mississauga Board of Trade's kickoff event on the Thursday morning and was quite impressed with the experience. Everyone received a VIP pass and a comp voucher for an order of ribs, plus a $5 Erin Mills Town Centre gift card and a few nifty tchotchkes (coin purse, pens, etc.). Great event overall, rain aside.
Most of us had to sit and wait it out in the VIP tents in the middle of the field, but that was short-lived, as the skies soon cleared and everyone was able to venture to their favorite vendor. I knew from last year's Yelp Elite event with Kris and the gang that Camp 31 was the place to go, and once again, they didn't disappoint. Huge ribs and spiced beans with coleslaw, though the portion size for the latter was a bit smaller than some of the other places I glimpsed.
I also had the chance to try Billy Bones ribs, but was a bit disappointed in them - way too salty. It's like they kept the ribs in the brine way longer than required.
Unlike last year, I plan on making a return trip over the weekend. Can't get enough of those ribs!
