Blackstone is easily the best range in the Charlotte area. I can't imagine other Charlotte ranges staying in business without great improvements, in fact. Blackstone also has a retail gun section with a nice assortment to browse, but the prices are high. I have a premium individual membership and only go for the range anyway.
It is a very busy range but the service is good. Clean range with powerful air filters. The service and range officers are uniformly professional and courteous to both beginners and experts. Unfortunately they allow rifles in both bays, so you may get put next to a very obnoxious rifle, which is almost guaranteed if it's busy. I try to ask to be placed away from rifles especially if I see a tacticool guy playing G.I. Joe in the lane next to my assigned lane.
Note that there are lots of beginners and even first-timers who shoot here. It's good that more people are getting exposed to shooting but there are some things you will have to deal with. Range etiquette and safety are not always perfect. I've been muzzle swept more than a few times, through no fault of the range officers or employees. It's good that this range is beginner-friendly though, as most ranges obviously are not.
