i was meeting a couple of friends/clients for lunch and suggested we go to bread and butter.
i talked this place up because of all the glowing reviews.
i had the eggplant grilled cheese.
it was quite delicious, however, it was not grilled nor was the cheese melty and gooey the way a good grilled cheese should be.
the ingredients were fresh and the sandwich itself was tasty.
the salad they serve on the side was wonderfully fresh and crisp.
they should just call it what it is - eggplant sandwich - rather than eggplant grilled cheese.
i also attempted to order a soy latte but they ran out of soy.
it was only 11am and they ran out of soy milk!?
so they suggested 2% instead.
that response always confuses me.
soy milk and 2% milk are not even remotely similar as one is lactose free and the other is not.
definitely a pet peeve of mine.
i mentioned that i was lactose intolerant and the girl taking my order stared at me with the most perplexed look on her face.
i ended up ordering an iced coffee, black, which wasn't good at all.
which brings me to the service.
it could definitely use some work.
i neither received a smile, an apology nor a thank you after placing my order and leaving a generous tip.
maybe it's just me.
maybe i just come off a little bitchy, snobby, arrogant or whatever.
who knows.
it just appears that i get the worst service when everyone else gets amazing service.
needless to say, i was slightly disappointed in my overall experience and hope that the next time (and there will be a next time) i decide to drive 35 minutes for breakfast or lunch, my visit warrants a 5 star review.
