  • I've always enjoyed going to the MGM Grand for the Casino or to visit the District where they do TV panels, etc. (something free to do in Vegas and you might even get paid? WIN) But after all of these years, I had never stayed there and darn it, I wanted to go to the pool and lazy river I'd been hearing about. So, we used some MyVegas points to get a free night in the middle of our week stay in Vegas. Of course, we did have to pay a $35 resort fee, so not really free, but essentially, we paid $35 to hang out at the pool all day and just head up to our lovely room when we were done instead of going back to our regular digs next door at the Marriott Grand Chateau. We also had our family who were in town come spend the day with us. The pool: All the things I wanted to know. If you are staying at the hotel, you get to use the pool area, including the lazy river. You can bring people in with you... I mean, I guess if you tried to bring 20 people, they may not allow it, but we brought four along with us and it was fine. You can get as many towels as you need. There are lots of chairs, but honestly, not much shade. There are multiple pools and I think they all have cabanas and daybeds for rent, but we spent our day at the lazy river. The SELL branded round inner tube style floats as well as a few other styles, all round for $25. No renting, just buying. However, you can bring your own with you as long as its round. My fam brought regular small rafts with them, not knowing about the round rule at the time and so we tied them into a circle and made them round! It worked! But, be prepared, just bring your own... that ticket is CRAZY for a piece of plastic! They have bars where you can buy beverages, you can order food at the grill and they have servers that walk around and will get your food and beverage for you. We had two orders of chicken tenders and fries and they were huge, so the two of us only ended up eating about one. the bar also has a water station, so you can get cups of water. Overall, we enjoyed the day at the pool. A little more shade would be nice, though. The room: The room was actually very nice. It was your standard hotel room, king bed, non-smoking with a view of the airport and the Tropicana Hotel and south Strip. Check in was a breeze because we currently have Gold status in MLife from a credit card offer... looks like that offer has changed, though, so I won't go into details on that. If you have Gold status or higher, you don't have to wait in the long line to check in... and the line IS long because this place is massive and popular. Our bed was comfy and the shower was okay, but not cleaned properly as there was hair in the shower. Ew. I enjoyed the bath products they provided, they were nice. I don't often use the provided products, but I thought I'd try them and, the shampoo and conditioner were nice. I actually gambled just a little and had some moderate success which was fun, the husband not so much success, OR fun. There are so many food choices here which is awesome. We ate at the Casual Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill which was yummy and no reservation was needed. There are also several shows that take place and a nightclub (at least one), so you can actually stay at the MGM for a couple days easily without leaving! Its very self contained. Overall, it was a really nice experience and I would totally stay here again, I mean if I didn't have to pay for it. I already have a home at my time share in Vegas, so staying at the other properties is fun, but I'm too cheap to actually pay for them! But, of the places I have stayed on the Las Vegas strip over the years: Venetian, Palazzo, Bellagio, Cosmopolitan, & MGM, I'd say they all have really great options to them and any would be fabulous for a second stay.
