| - I stayed at this hotel during a conference. I wouldn't call it a resort. Overall the facilities are a little tired, and my room in the 900 section was definitely in need of new carpet (oder) and the bathroom fan was really noisy. A/C pretty loud too. Housekeeping didn't usually get to my room before 3pm, which could be managed but I wish they did a better job--waste cans were not always emptied, complementary bottled water was not replaced, and not clear how much sweeping they did. Like many Scottsdale hotels, they love to tack on a resort fee of $25.00. Not clear what this gets you that shouldn't be built into the price of the room. All of these are pretty minor things, the fun begins with customer service.
When I checked in I was given some story about having two reservations. I checked my phone and all email accounts--no record of this second reservation. And rather than simply resolve the issue at check in, the front desk person said I should contact my travel agent (my company uses Nextravel). I did this, and again no record of any duplicate. So I checked in using the only reservation I had, and went to my conference. When I checked out, I noticed a "no show" fee had been added with tax. When I called the accounting department, the person I spoke to first said--that's odd, I'll take care of it right away (the right answer). A few minutes later I got an email reversing this, saying I had two reservations and the other wasn't cancelled with 48 hours notice. I escalated to the general manager, and got the same "I can't help you" line.
The mark of a quality property is that they are equally interested in your current stay and your future stays, and will work with you to resolve any issues. This is the kind of place that will accept thousands of dollars in future lost business in order to keep a bogus fee. Caveat emptor.
