| - Yes! Yes! Yes! I went to Vegas for the first time recently, and this was BY FAR the highlight of the trip.
I will confess ahead of time that my buddy and I are both military fan boys. We grew up fascinated with guns and spent many a late night in college playing call of duty until all hours of the morning. Action movies? Awesome. Military documentaries? Hell yes. Live in a country where we can experience this fascination first hand? Hell no. We live in a nation where there is a million hoops to jump through to get both access to shotguns and then even more hoops to play with handguns and semi automatic rifles with a max capacity of five rounds.
Once we got to Vegas, we had a rough idea of what we wanted to do, but didn't know exactly where to do it. We looked online and Battlefield was the number one tourist attraction on trip advisor.
We checked out their site and were able to pre book our packages online. Special ops for me, and black ops for my buddy. We made a call and arranged a pickup at our hotel in one of their hummers and off we go
We took a cab to in n out burger first, and experienced the shady strip club hustle first hand. In n out was far busier than I expected and battlefield happily changed our pickup spot to the restaurant. We finish our food, walk to the other side of the building, and jump in an official military humvee. Nick, our driver, was former military and equal parts bad ass and hilarious. He pointed out lots of cool and interesting things on the way to the store, and we were there in a jiffy as it was centrally located a block off the middle of the strip.
We signed in, agreed that we hadn't been drinking giant frozen margaritas all morning, and ended up adding on to our packages once we saw all the other awesome guns behind the counter. AK-47 buy one clip get one free? Yup! .50 caliber sniper rifle bullets? Yes please! Throw in a glock clip because my package didn't have one, and we are rolling. I throw a pre tip to the crew of instructors as a thank you for their service and we are on our way to the range.
Our instructor was a different Nick. Ex college football player, former marine, great guy. He told some incredible stories about his service, and that of the other instructors around us. He gave me chills in speaking of the marine legacy in his family, and how important it was to follow in the footsteps of his forefathers.
The shooting was incredible. I instantly became very comfortable in the use of the weapons and performed far better than I expected based on Nicks tutelage. We ended up adding on a M249 Saw clip after seeing how cool the weapon was in person, and Nick handled that seamlessly as well.
We were given lots of opportunities for photos and videos, and were given our targets and some 50 cal casings for the road. After our shooting, Nick went out of his way to maximize our experience by taking us into the back to see the gun vault, which holds millions of dollars in unique weapons. He gave us much more chances for photos and history lessons.
Another big tip on the way out for the crew, and we are heading back down the strip in an open backed humvee this time. Our driver was absolutely hysterical, and had us in stitches with his colourful rants on a variety of local subjects.
I had a fantastic time and a return trip is at the top of my next visit to do list
