  • I have used this vet for our family cat who lives in Lakewood as well as for a few cats that have been temporarily visiting due to a family health situation and a house move. We mostly see Dr. Curren. She is good with cats, knowledgeable about their care including such things as what foods they should eat (very important - not every bag of stuff labeled "cat food" is good for your cat) and thorough in her exams. She also treats every cat like it is super special and beautiful and the most wonderful cat in the world (which of course to its owner, it is!) and when the doctor acts this way the same attitude carries over to the vet assistants, so you feel like you are truly getting the full attention and care for your cat. The office location is convenient and there is a decent sized parking lot in back of it (also very important for Lakewood where street parking is often hard to find). I also like how the lobby is structured with a separate entrance for dogs and cats so they go to different parts of the lobby, although unfortunately a lot of the patrons either don't realize they should use the proper door or just don't care, leading to dogs in the cat area and so on. They also have separate exam rooms for dogs and cats although it seems like the cat rooms are often full when we go, so we end up using a dog room. I would say their prices are moderate to a little high. I did have one issue with their pricing that caused me to look elsewhere recently. I took Cat A in for her annual checkup and shots and paid a fairly large bill for office call, shots, etc. After this visit it was determined that Cat A needed an additional booster and I got several reminders from the vet to bring her in to get it. I explained that I was in the middle of a major house move in another state and it was not possible to work in a vet visit at that time. A few weeks later I planned to take in Cat B for her annual checkup and at that time asked if I could bring Cat A in for the booster shot at the same time as Cat B was being seen. At this point I was informed that since it had been more than 30 days since Cat A's checkup, I would have to pay 45 dollars for another office call for Cat A in addition to the cost of the booster. On the one hand I am glad they told me in advance, on the other hand I was annoyed that this hadn't been made clear earlier and also annoyed that having just paid a significant vet bill for a checkup for Cat A a few weeks prior, and planning to incur another one for Cat B (in addition to four other cats I've taken there in the past year) they would try to get an extra 45 dollars out of me for a booster shot that was going to take 5 minutes tops. I told them forget it and I would take both the cats elsewhere - Cat B can see her regular vet out of state and Cat A can get her booster much, much cheaper at the discount shot clinics including one located on Fulton Road. Overall I would keep using this vet for at least the family cat and for anything fairly involved like an annual wellness checkup or an illness, since those require enough of the vet's time to justify the office call fee. For routine matters like a simple shot there are probably better priced options available elsewhere. Since we are involved in cat rescue and I am involved or partially involved in getting vet care for 8 cats right now, pricing is unfortunately something I have to consider.
