| - I think in about one years time this hotel will be really nice, but based on my stay last week, I have to go with three stars.
The hotel has a number of things working in its favor: the location is great right off of Yonge Street, the lobby is gorgeous, the staff is super helpful, and perhaps most importantly, the hotel has started gutting and renovating all the guest rooms 3 floors at a time staring with the north tower. They also have a zero noise tolerance policy that keeps the bleed through noise from other guest rooms to a minimum.
However, as of December 2015, the renovations are not complete and the rooms are downright run down. We're taking Courtyard by Marriott styling from 20 years ago with the brass wall lamps; tar-stained yellow lap shades from before they went smoke free, extremely dated bathrooms with separate shower/toilet from the sink, peeling wallpaper, air conditioners with the panel broken off, and super hard mattresses that probably belong in the landfill. I was also bummed that they do not use Marriott's signature pillows at this location.
The pool area also leaves a lot to be desired, with the pool desperately in need of refinishing, a hot tub that's not quite hot enough, broken music system, and dead light bulbs everywhere.
They also recently closed their restaurant, so the only food choice is their bar area that also serves sandwiches and Starbucks coffee. Thankfully there's dozens of places to go within a few minutes walk, so not the end of the world.
Looking forward to another visit in a years time to see the progress and improvement. I would love to replace this review with one that has five stars.
