| - My sister is a Henderson resident and on a recent trip to spend time with her she mentioned wanting to go horseback riding. We hadn't been in quite some time, but hoped that the slow pace of this ride would yield some awesome views and knock off some cobwebs.
I found Cowboy Trail Rides on yelp and didn't have a problem scheduling only a couple days before for a Sunday ride. After finding the place (directions were spot on) we drove through the gate, and it felt a little weird, but you have to drive up quite farther than you'd think past the gate to get to the staging area.
We met Cowboy John (our guide) and he took us through the paperwork and legal stuff. after a couple minutes, I noticed, no one else had shown up yet, and figured maybe the complimentary pick-up was late... I mentioned how many more we are waiting for for the ride, and he said. "No one, just you two this morning". I was pleasantly surprised.
We got a 2 on 1 tour of the Red Rock Rim trail. We had a great ride and a beautiful Sunday morning. We had no problems, and John was happy to take our picture, and stop for us and pictures whenever we liked. He was extremely talkative and helpful and just a lot of fun.
The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because, due to Federal regulations on the land your on, you can't go any faster than a walk. Though, it was still fun... Something more would be nice, but not their fault. Secondly, the trail had some awesome view, but it you were always on the same side of the view. You got the same view at different heights. I expect the time constraints on the ride make it difficult to see all the amazing views.
Overall, I can't wait to go back again and maybe on a longer lunch ride, or hopefully the Sunset BBQ ride. They say they almost always fill up for. I can't wait to get some of that good BBQ and cowboy tales and songs. My sister was also thinking about taking her sorority girls to go on an outing. I hope she does... It was so much fun!
