| - I've been having some severe abdominal pain for the past couple of months and finally decided to see a GI. I checked online and saw great review for Dr. jayaraman so I scheduled an appointment with him. The appointment went fine, he listened to my concerns and told me I could have GERD but my symptoms didn't really scream GERD to me. He gave me a prescription and wanted to do an endoscopy the following week which I agreed to.
Doing any procedure requires a 3 day to 2 week waiting period for pre authorization, unless its escalated. I called the doctors office 3 times to ask about my patient responsibility and when I finally reached someone, she told me my insurance had already approved the procedure. I called my insurance and they told me no, not yet... long story short, lots of miscommunication and it left me very confused as my procedure was the next day.... Anyway, I finally got to speak with Melissa in billing and she sorted everything out.
Dr. Jayaraman is great. His bedside manner is wonderful and he waited until I woke up after my endoscopy to speak with me. He never seems like he's in a rush, and his nurse Terri is also very good at relaying messages/ questions to him and then following up on labs and whatnot.
The endoscopy process may seem scary, but it wasn't bad. I fell asleep within 5 seconds and woke up feeling groggy but fine. It was quite expensive, make sure you call the Durango outpatient center to find out how much the facility fee is. Also, call the anesthesiologist office to find out how much he costs. Also, any biopsies done during the procedure is another cost... so keep all that in mind.
On another note, Dr. J prescribed a medication that was kind of expensive so I asked for another generic brand that would be cheaper and he faxed the new prescription over to my local pharmacy! I highly recommend Dr. J. His front office staff however wasn't very friendly.
