  • There is an epidemic of robberies going on here. 19 from September 1st (https://www.crimemapping.com/map/nv/lasvegas#) to mid October. I myself was robbed. 1. Management won't inform residents. I know that if I was informed that there had been 18 robberies in the past month or so, I would have got a security system and extra locks. These things almost certainly would have prevented me from being burglarized. I'm sure that if other victims were informed, they too would have taken steps to prevent the burglaries from occurring. Management claims that they do want to inform us, but that they legally can't release details. They also claim that they are working with police to obtain the details so that they can be provided to us. Yet it's been almost 2 months, and it still hasn't happened. If they truly did "want to" inform us, they could say something like, "Hey, there has been a significant amount of burglaries here recently. We can't say exactly how many, but we want to emphasize that it is significant. You can see the details for yourself at the following link." But they don't want to inform us. Doing so would be against their self-interest because they don't want to have a reputation of being an unsafe place. Well, if a place is unsafe, which Griffis is at the moment, residents and prospective residents deserve to know. 2. We have an online community portal. I tried posting there to inform my neighbors of the robberies so that they can take steps to prepare themselves. I also included important information, like "don't touch anything if you are robbed until the cops get here, because they won't be able to use it as evidence if you touch it". I also posted simple questions to management separately. None of my posts were approved, and so they were never seen. (Fortunately, I managed to inform all of the residents here, and people have thanked me heartily for the heads up, and are all very angry that management wouldn't inform them.) Many other residents have tried posting, but 99% of the time, management doesn't approve posts. One girl posted to let us know she saw someone hop the fence to get into the complex, and that posted wasn't approved either. Furthermore, management doesn't reach out and say, "Hey, we saw your post but decided not to approve it for reasons X, Y and Z. If you address these, we will allow it." We receive no communication from management about our unapproved posts/comments. It just feels like we are being censored. We had a community meeting between police, management and residents last night. The police strongly encouraged us to communicate amongst ourselves about these things, and management won't let us do it. 3. Residents have been *begging* management to install security cameras so that we could end all of these burglaries. Management continues to claim that they are "looking in to it". It has been almost two months, and we still have zero security cameras in our complex. They won't even get one or two to put at the gates. Residents are all furious about the way Griffis has dealt with the epidemic of crime we're currently having. Other than these issues, I have loved living here throughout my first two months. It is clean, beautiful, comfortable, right next to Sprouts, the library, lots of fantastic restaurants, etc. But these security issues are deal breakers. Update: I have asked management a bunch of questions regarding everything I've talked about in this review. It has been over a month, and I am still waiting for a response, despite multiple reminders. It certainly feels like they are avoiding me. There was recently a shooting right across the street (http://news3lv.com/news/local/man-suffers-critical-injuries-after-being-shot-near-sahara-fort-apache). More recently there was a police chase that happened right inside our complex (and in front of me as I was relaxing by the pool Monday morning). The person being chased was dangerous and had a knife. Helicopters and police dogs were involved. And all of this has happened while the Mandalay Bay massacre is fresh in everyone's minds. This is a sensitive period of time as far as safety goes, and I feel uncomfortable with the way Griffis's management handles safety.
