| - Serendipity 3 at Caesars Palace was probably one of the restaurants I was most looking forward to trying in Las Vegas and also was the most disappointing. We asked to sit outside along the strip and were told there was a 10-15 minute wait. We ventured outside to wait at the bar and noticed at least 5 tables with no occupants which still had people's used plates, glasses and leftover food sitting out. The floor had garbage underneath nearly every table and there was dirt smudges all over the black and white checkered floor. We decided to wait inside, which was also not clean. My boyfriend made a good point, which was if the restaurant was this dirty, what did the kitchen look like? If I'd been at home, we would have left, but I really wanted to try the Frrrozen hot chocolate!
We waited close to 10 minutes and were then seated at a table outside. It looked like ours and another table had been cleaned but there were no silverware settings. The other 3 tables near us were still covered in unwanted food remnants. Our table was next to the trash can/service area and two old chairs, one of which had a cigarette burn all the way through the cushion. Charming.
The Frrrozen hot chocolate is billed as a blend of 20 different kinds of chocolate in "an icy cocoa concoction." I ordered the regular size as well as three deep fried oreos. Oreos are not listed on the menu individually, but our server advised I could order them at $1.50 each. We also asked for waters which I had observed on each table with huge blue and pink straws. Not too long after, my hot chocolate and oreos arrived. Still had no water and no silverware. I asked the server for water again. If you see my photo of the hot chocolate, it had clearly been sitting in the kitchen for a little while, as it was presented to me with part of the drink melted in the plate below. A well-attended kitchen would have been sure to switch out the plate before presenting this $12 drink to a customer. Further, you can see that only half of the glass contains the actual hot chocolate. The rest is filled with whipped cream.
The frrrozen hot chocolate was tasty, but I did not detect even a hint of there being 20 different kinds of chocolate, and I find that claim somewhat suspect. It did not take long to finish the chocolate part of the drink, which was disappointing, given I had almost an entire glass of whipped cream remaining. The oreos were battered in corn flakes, which I had never seen before. Not the prettiest presentation, but they were tasty. I finally got my water and napkins close to the time I was finishing my food. Surprisingly, my server told me at that time that my oreos were on the house.
Overall, I would say to skip Serendipity 3 on your Las Vegas visit. It clearly is not well-managed and its servers are not set up to succeed. I saw a group of women at another table complaining to the manager about waiting over an hour for their food. He didn't really seem to care, at least from my vantage point. Gone is the Serendipity 3 you may have seen featured on tv as I did, which seemed to show a well-kept, high end dessert shop. No one in their right mind would order the famous $1,000 sundae containing real gold flakes from this establishment.
