| - The excitement of sharing projects is part of the reason we buy yarn at small businesses, right? Or maybe I'm just used to yarn stores being open and gregarious places where people are curious what kind of project you are working on or whether you knit or crochet or something else. There is sort of a fun joy in yarn shopping because of that sense of shared arts. This place may be like that for regulars but it was anything but that for me.
I would honestly have given them 4 stars except the customer service was a bit lack luster....Actually, it was bad.
They made me feel unimportant and invisible. I was NEVER greeted and never asked if there was anything specific I was looking for... much less asked about my project(s)....And I was in this small store shopping for quite awhile. I'm not one for aggressive sales people, but at the very least I expect to be acknowledged. When I was finished with my selections I waited at the counter, again unacknowledged, even though the people that worked there were less than 10 feet away at the workshop tables.... I had to walk over and let them know I was ready. When I was rung up, I tried to engage in a little bit of conversation with the guy, but he was clearly uninterested in me. I'm a pretty friendly and cheerful person, so I couldn't understand why I was getting lukewarm (if not down right cold) treatment.
To put things in perspective, a handful of people came and went while I was there. Most seemed to be regulars, who all got cheerful greetings. There was one woman who clearly was new to the store, but got a lot of attention. After she walked out the guy- no joke- said "I bet she'll become one of our regulars, here" .... Seriously, the man said that.
Did I reek of California or something?? Was it obvious I was an out-of-towner and may not be back for return business??? Should it matter? It made me feel very small.... and too bad for them, I come to Vegas pretty regularly and buy yarn often.
The yarn selection was alright, they definitely had some gems and to be fair, I have really specific taste in yarn. There was some AMAZING color/color combinations but not in the gauge I needed. That's okay, headed into Spring, and to be expected this time of year. They did let me use the yarn winder which I appreciate, but I think that's a pretty standard practice at yarn stores. They have a good range of pricing on their yarns and the selection is probably super dreamy for many yarn art enthusiasts. Like I said I have really specific taste, so it was only so-so for me. I still managed to spend quite a bit of money in here. Next time, however, I will go to the other spot in town and spend my money on people who might actually acknowledge my presence, other than just when I'm handing them cash.
