12/2/16: I have updated my rating to 2-stars to reflect the prompt and apologetic response from Hillcrest Dental's staff regarding my review below. However, my review still stands as it accurately captures my experience.
I have requested not to be contacted again by this business regarding this issue whether through calls to my personal cell phone number or emails to my personal email address.
____________
I have to warn the public that this dental practice potentially engages in upselling of unnecessary services.
I made an appointment for a routine dental cleaning because this location is near my new home and because it has such great reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, red flags began to pop up throughout my appointment such as:
1. The dental hygienist/assistant (not the dentist) began aggressively diagnosing a ton of problems in my mouth that have never been found before in my years of dental history. I have two dentists-- one in Los Angeles and a different one in Las Vegas-- and I've never had an experience at an appointment where the dental hyigenist/assistant was the one to make clinical assessments.
2. Hillcrest Dental began recommending expensive services such as deep cleanings, routine cleanings every few weeks, and antibacterial powder under the teeth that insurance does not cover. Again, as someone who does not have a history of dental issues and has routine cleanings twice a year I was very suspicious of these alarmist recommendations.
I consulted with another dentist for a second opinion and they confirmed my suspicions. It turns out my teeth are fine and I don't need all that additional work because a simple routine cleaning would suffice. I wanted to give Hillcrest Dental a 5-star review but the potential upselling has led me to conclude they are not an honest business and that they are fully aware of the practices they are engaging in.
