  • The museum itself is fantastically awesome! The "behind the scenes" stuff leaves a LOT to be desired. Let me explain. We bought our niece a family membership for her birthday on May 1st. The Family Membership is for two adults and up to four kids. For an additional $20 each, grandparents or caregivers can be added. So we put ourselves down as caregivers since we will also be taking her there. We bought the membership online because they said that was the only way they were selling them at the time. They required names, phone numbers, and birth dates for all of the adults. We waited and waited for the cards to come. Finally around the end of May, my husband called and talked to the woman who does memberships. "Oh, we couldn't process your membership because *the child named on the membership* is not 18." WHAT?!?! There are 4 adults also listed on there, they couldn't have used one of those names?!?! Also, they sat on this for almost a month with no effort to contact us or refund our money. Because of course they could take our money, even if they couldn't process the membership. That is beyond horrible customer service. Ok, so she said she would have the membership pack out the next day. We live about 5 miles from there, so we figured we'd give it a week. Two weeks later, we called yet again. And were yet again promised that the cards would be sent the next day. They arrived two weeks later, on June 28th. Two months and 3 phone calls to get our membership. UNacceptable. And it expires May 31st next year. We don't even get a full year. At that point, we just said whatever, because we know we will get our money's worth out of it in the next 11 months. Now, the museum itself is absolutely incredible. It is very well thought out, from stroller parking outside the toddler room, to bathrooms on every floor, to smocks for children *and* adults in the water room, to the "baby pit" in the toddler room. My only complaint is the stairs in the climbing structure. They are wayyyy too tall! I'm 5'3" and hard a hard time climbing up. I also had to hold on to the rail to step down. Bottom line, I'm glad we got the membership, especially after being there for 3 hours with my niece the other day and she didn't want to leave. But their membership department clearly needs help.
