| - Wanted to share a good dining experience in the west valley. On Sunday afternoon, we met friends at La Bona Pasta on Indian School Rd. in Litchfield Park. http://labonapasta.net/index.html
This locally owned restaurant is all about respect--for the food, the customer, and the dining experience. The menu, while a little voluminous for the average diner, was right on target for the foodies amongst us. Not only great Italian meat dishes, but how many kinds of pasta can you name? You got it!
The price is right too. My dinner entrée, an abundant plate of spaghetti with white clam sauce came with soup or salad, baskets of beautiful freshly baked garlic bread and rolls and a plate of custom sliced butter (if you didn't want to use the fresh, flavored olive oil). The cost was $11.95
For starters, we ordered the baked brie served on crusty bread and topped with a rendered mushroom sauce. This was tasty and just right for the four of us. For the first course, my husband chose the salad, an ample mix of fresh lettuces and vegetables, topped with finely julienned carrots. I chose the soup, which was a delectable cream of asparagus with just the proper amount of seasoning.
His entrée was one of three daily specials, Chicken Lasagna (others were Orange Roughy and braised pork chops). The lasagna was plenty (even for my husband who was hungry) and it was delicious (I had bites). In any Italian restaurant, I order spaghetti and white clam sauce and consider myself an expert on this dish. It was prepared in the classic Italian way: lots of love, a few fresh, superbly cooked ingredients, frosted with fresh Parmesan, and cracked pepper--prefect. I had to taste my friend's marinara sauce too. It had the deep goodness of the garden with just a little kick of heat. Wonderful.
The service was great! I can say this with assurance, as I am an unembarrassed and habitual coffee drinker who does not like to hunt down a waiter. (The restaurant also offers wine, by the bottle and glass). The food was hot, well prepared and we lacked nothing. We had the best kind of service, never ignored but left in peace to savor our food.
Because of the pleasure assured by a good meal and good company, a room that was agreeable and conducive to conversation, we lingered over coffee and ordered desert. Lemon cake w/a yummy sauce, chocolate mousse cake with a dense bottom layer of pure heavenly chocolate, and another type of dark chocolate cake with a raspberry sauce--one that I wasn't quick enough to get a forkful of. I ordered traditional Italian custard, the top perfectly crusted and layered with fresh whipped cream.
And did I mention that the coffee was good? We will go again and if we lived in the west valley, we'd be regulars. Bon Appetite
