  • Forewarning: this is going to be a long one. So, I went to Larry H Miller in surprise April 2nd with my sister. We were looking for a car that would accommodate the both of us and could fit two car seats in the back. Found a gorgeous 2015 Nissan Sentra, used, for about $13,000. I don't remember the exact price right now. I went in with a pre-approved auto loan from my credit card company for about $18,000. We went for a test drive with Collin. He was cool. Seemed new, but was knowledgeable. We went back after the test drive to speak with the sales manager, I can't remember his name right now, but I'll update specifics after I check the paperwork. Anyway, I told said sales manager MULTIPLE times that I'm pre-approved. I told him MULTIPLE times that I have been working on bringing up my credit for the past 7 years and that I had brought it up from low 400s to a 698 and was very proud and very cautious and that I can not have any bad instances added to my credit report. He seemed to understand. I presented him with my pre-approval offer which he barely looked at. I told him, again, multiple times, that I would like my monthly payment to be around $250. I knew this was close to impossible for a vehicle that costs $13,000, but I was reassured that he would make it work. He took a few trips to the "finance office" and kept coming back with monthly payments that would not work for me. After getting up to leave a few times and him running back to "finance office" he came back with a monthly payment of $283. Ok, a little more than I'd like, but not too bad. I sign the papaers, go and talk to John Bakos, we of course add the extended warranty and gap insurance. That brings the payment up another $100 per month. I tell him that that was not what was agreed upon and he explains the extra costs. He added the fact that I am a Costco member and somehow it brought down the monthly payment $60 and my interest rate from about 12% to about 8%. I'm still unaware that they decided to go with another finance company. After all papers are signed, John informs me about this other finance company and that they decided to go with them because of the interest rate... so, of course, I ask if this is guaranteed financing. Yes, you were approved, the deal went through. Or so I'm told. Fast forward about three weeks and I call the dealership because I still haven't received any information from the dealership or the finance company. I also had not received my permanent plates. I was getting worried. (And rightfully so) everything is good, I'm told again, it takes exactly 30 days for the plates to get sent out. So, I call back, leave a voice mail for John just to make sure that they have what they need from me. I had to call three times that week and keep leaving voicemails before I actually got a hold of him. Noone else could answer my questions apparently. He requested my pay stubs again, which I emailed. All was good, I was told yet again. For those of you who lost track, at this point it's been a month and few days since the purchase. Another week and a half goes by, still nothing from anyone. Nothing in the mail, no calls, no text messages. Nothing. I start calling, again. I have to keep leaving voicemails, again. And, yet again, Noone can tell me anything. I call on the 17th, when my temp tags expired, spoke with Brittany, she emailed me updated temp tags and tells me that she is not able to process my permanent plates because she still hasn't received anything from finance... so I start calling again. Finally, today, I get a hold of John. He tells me that because I work for a temp agency, the deal with the finance company they decided to go with fell through. I now need a co-signer. Really? All of my information was disclosed April 2nd. Who I work for, how much I make, when I will be considered permanent employee, what my raise will bring my wages up to, EVERYTHING! I work in IT, this is how IT companies hire these days... not the point. All of this brings me to, why did they even look at other finance options if I had pre-approval? Like, at all? I even told the sales manager that I did not care enough for the car to be going through so much work, that I was fine to look at other options. He was adamant about selling the car because it was "such a good deal" I should have walked away.
