| - I knew what I was getting into when I headed to Glory Hole, so the sticker-shock didn't hit me as it has some people. It was near closing time, so the store was just wrapping up. The staff promised a few doughnuts were finishing cooking in the back, and we decided to wait.
Tried a Pretzel doughnut first while we waited. The first thing you notice is how good the dough is. Much lighter than the frozen and baked doughnuts from Tim's. Toppings were okay, nothing special.
We had coffee as well. Coffee was perhaps the best part of our trip. It was a well made, strong brew and fresh.
Staff came out to inform us that the doughnuts we had been waiting for wouldn't be made (for some reason), so we just picked two of the leftovers they had available. Maple was one; the simple, standard doughnut. Probably my favourite from this place, because it's simple enough to appreciate the dough's texture without an overpowering taste.
We wanted to order Banana Cream Pie, but for some reason walked out with a Lemon Meringue unknowingly. It didn't appear the doughnuts were in their proper trays by label, and the staff was a bit rushed. Lemon was okay, but the taste was pretty overpowering. Given this was apparently one of the most expensive doughnuts available as well, I don't think it was worth it.
Overall the experience was okay. I could see myself occasionally getting off a short turning Roncy streetcar to grab a doughnut and coffee, but I'd be hard pressed to get off only for Glory Hole Doughnuts. My wallet couldn't take it either.
