  • Booking/Scheduling: We bought a groupon for 6 then added one more, which was fine since the max occupancy for the room was 8. We booked the room online two days ahead of time. The online booking was straightforward and made it easy to check what days and times are available for each room. The site even lets you use your groupon code to pay which was great, most places will require you to call to book with a groupon. Now for the room details: Room: The Unknown (Part 1) Difficulty: Intermediate to Hard Party size: 7 people (max occupancy is 8) My room rating: 3/5 This is the 13th escape room I've done. I'll start by saying that we made it out with around 3-5 minutes to spare, but we used three hints in total. On the theme, I have to say I was expecting it to be more mysterious rather than horror from the online description, so just be wary if you have squeamish people in the group. (Possible spoilers ahead) In my opinion, for a room with a lot of locks, it was surprisingly linear the entire way through, which meant some people in the group were often left with nothing to do since only those on the correct "path" would be progressing while the rest of the group watched on or fiddled with something else. I kinda feel like the room would be better off with a max limit of 6. There were two problems we ran into caused us some trouble. First, as is typical in most rooms there are symbols on items that mean do not touch. It might just be me, but usually these items mean that they are not related to the game or are simply for aesthetics. In this room, there was an item with the do not touch symbol that was actually important. Because of the symbol, we all completely ignored the item because it looked kinda fragile too. Sure enough, we got stuck and used a hint, to find that we needed to use said item. Second problem, an important lock was pretty worn out. We almost couldn't see the characters on it because it was so worn and faded from use. Seeing as the room was very dimly lit, this lock was more frustrating than it should've been. Anyway, problems aside, I felt there was only one puzzle in the room that I really appreciated for its novelty. The rest were fairly simple or variations on common puzzles found in other escape rooms. Upon exit from the room, the game master lets you write a team name in chalk on the hall walls if you escaped your room, which I thought was pretty neat. You also get to take a picture with props before you leave. At this point though, most places ask you what you thought of the room or if there was anything you had questions about. Our game master skipped this entirely and I'm not sure if that's because she forgot or because they don't do that here, but I just thought that was a bit odd because you just sort of leave awkwardly if they don't ask you anything about the room. Final thoughts: It's a pretty well located escape room location on the Westside with tons of parking. Booking online is easy and the narrative then walk to the room is pretty entertaining. My friends and I found the room to be kinda average and we thought the exit process was noticeably stiffer than the welcoming process. We still might give the other rooms a shot since this location is pretty convenient as you don't need to drive near the strip. I'd give it a 3.5/5, but rounding up because our party felt bad that the GM was alone and had to handle us and the incoming party.
