| - I didn't know anything like Hiking Yoga existed until we got a Groupon offer for it recently. My husband and I love to hike. I've been doing yoga at least once a week for the past year or so, and he's been trying to do more yoga recently. So when the offer came in our e-mail, I thought it was worth a try.
The one bad thing about Hiking Yoga? You have to get up early. Now, it seems my husband and I are two of only about five people in AZ who are not morning people. Everyone else seems to get up at the crack of dawn no matter what the weather is. I've lived out here 6-1/2 years and I still don't understand it. Anyway, we had to drive up from Podunk (aka Casa Grande), so we had to get up even earlier than most. However, you are probably a morning person and the early start wouldn't bother you!
The trail and the parking lot were easy to find, as we had been to this part of South Mountain before. The parking lot was packed but we didn't have any problems finding a place in the overflow lot. We didn't find the restroom at the trailhead their website says is available, but there are plenty of gas stations nearby.
Our group of 7 started promptly at 9. We hiked for 15 minutes or so and then did about 5 minutes of standing yoga. We did a few cycles of this for the next hour and a half. All the while my body was saying, "Um, excuse me, but it's Saturday morning and I should still be in bed!" LOL Natalie was very friendly and had great energy. It was a little difficult doing yoga on an uneven surface, wearing hiking shoes, feeling the breeze hit you, and having the sun in your eyes, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless. I could see us doing this a couple of times per hiking season. And, since it was Saturday, we still had plenty of time for an afternoon nap!
