| - This is such a gem in Pittsburgh that truly stands out from other bars through its offerings and atmosphere. The wine selection is obviously great, but I have stressed to my non-wine-fan friends that there are always extensive beer options (priced really well for Lawrenceville standards) and a fun cocktail menu too. The bartenders are very friendly and take the time to answer my questions (and I don't know anything about wine, so I ask a lot of dumb questions) without any pretentious vibes or rushing customers through orders.
Honestly though, the thing I always freak out about the most here are the food options; I can never pass up a couple cheese plates, some fruit/nut/meat snacks, and a toastie. And oh my goodness I am obsessed with these toasties... They're impressively inexpensive and are as filling as a full meal (according to me... my boyfriend disagrees and always tries to eat some of mine, haha.) Chèvre & apple toastie with lemon confit & thyme-honey on six grain bread? Um... yes, please. For all the food here, the presentation is awesome for being just a small "kitchen" behind the bar where it's prepared.
I usually end up spending a lot of money when I come here, but it's almost entirely the wine. Just a few glasses end up costing more than the massive feast of cheeses and meats and chocolates and toasties (YUM) that we order combined, which is fine by me. I love the wine, but for me the food menu and the extras that compliment it make this so much more than just a good wine bar and one of the coolest places to go for a chill night out in Pittsburgh.
