| - For $10 a month (plus a $40 yearly fee), it's probably the cheapest gym around. I don't expect much - there's a good variety of machines plus a free weights section, which pretty much meets my workout needs. But the maintenance and upkeep is absolutely terrible. Almost every surface is dirty and dinged up, but I guess repair and painting is too much to ask for. One of the water fountains broke a while ago - instead of replacing it, they simply removed it and put a towel rack in front of the space. Personally, I would have patched up the wall and painted it, but again, almost every wall needs patching and painting. Mirrors on the columns in the free weights section were broken and never replaced, and again the walls underneath were simply left exposed instead of being painted.
Staff is friendly, but can be kind of lazy. I've been there late at night, and seen them turning off TVs and fans 10 minutes before closing. I get it, you're tired and want to get home, but at least wait until the actual closing time before closing up. Have also seen garbage on the floor for multiple days (record is a protein bar wrapper that stayed on the floor for three days).
Weekday hours are fine - 5 AM to 11 PM, but weekend hours kinda limited - 7 AM to 7 PM. Would be nice if they stayed open an hour or two later.
You get what you pay for, I guess. If you just want the cheapest gym possible, go to Charter. Just don't expect anything beyond basic machines, working lights/toilets/sinks, and someone to say "Hello" at the front desk.
