| - Hmm. I've had the rendang here before and it was pretty good. I had my first taste on the island of Sumatra a long time ago. The rendang at Bandung tasted pretty dang close to the real thing! For this reason alone I am giving it a higher rating than our latest experience.
Our last experience was totally underwhelming. I raved to my husband about this place and how much I liked it. I had it before I met him so he had never been there. So, we finally decided to check it out together.
I ordered the lumpia for my son to try. The lumpia was pretty good. My son gobbled up both pieces in a flash! The wings, on the other hand, were not so great. It wasn't that the chicken wasn't good, because it was fine. It was more that they were normal wings with a tiny side of peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was really lumpy and hard to dip or spread on the wings. The wings also had a date on the outside...like if you bought them at a grocery store. Say what??? I don't want to order food from a restaurant, where I expect it to be fresh, to have a "sell by" date on it. Next we tried their Pad Rum Mit and Holy Basil. Granted, these are both more Thai than they are Indonesian, but whatever. Both dishes were pretty soupy and lacked flavor. The Pad Rum Mit maybe had 4 pieces of chicken in it. That's right, FOUR! I didn't order a mcnugget happy meal! Without flavor and chicken, we were extremely disappointed.
I'd go back to try their rendang again, but I definitely won't be ordering much else off the menu.
