Go on...have another.
A visit to Nadege Patisserie is not complete unless you try more than one delectable. That's my belief for any Patisserie. In order to grasp the chef's true talents you have to try it all - or maybe this is my excuse to not feel guilty, while indulging in three baked goods. Oh well!
I've walked in a few times but didn't order anything until this past weekend. I was a little intimidated by the delicate looking patisserie and the starkness of the place. When I think of Patisserie I equate it to warmth so I guess I was scared off at first by the 'whiteness' of the place...seemed a bit too sterile. I shouldn't have judged because the pastries are anything but!
The chef is a fourth generation baker from Lyon. I have to say, she's one of the few people who have managed to capture the essence found in French Patisserie. Not many places in Toronto have mastered this.
I decided to indulge in three buttery baked goods.
PAIN AU CHOCOLAT: Impressed! I've had a few in Toronto and she's the only one who puts two chocolate strips inside - the French way! I don't know how long it was sitting there but it still had that flaky buttery freshness. Only complaint - could have been more buttery. Disgusting I know, but you've found a good croissant/pain au chocolat when the bag goes translucent.
COCONUT BANANA: Very good! This one was my favorite. I've never had a French baked pastry quite like this. Perfect balance of the two main ingredients. A must try.
PISTACHIO: Very good too. I didn't really get a big enough bite because my family pounced on it. From the small bite, I can say, Pistachio was the star and that made me happy.
Take a trip to Nadege. Even if its just to stare at the beautiful delicate creations. Worth the calories!
SIDENOTE: Get ready to spend...the little ones don't come cheap.
