| - What a great place. Always so helpful and a wide variety of cuts of meat and house made sausages, patties, kebabs, beef cuts, etc. already seasoned and ready to cook.
Call ahead with any kind of order and they will do it for you and have it ready for pick up. Any size, big or small. If they don't have something in the display, they will often make it for you. For example, my wife loves their Parmesan chicken patties. They have always been happy to make a few for me on those occasions when there were none left in the case. By the way, they also do their own gyros meat.
Today I called in for 1 pound of ground pork, 1 pound of ground veal and 2.5 pounds of roughly ground sirloin. No problem. They had it made up and packaged for me when I was able to swing by a couple hours later.
Always good quality and fairly priced. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff. They often run specials so keep an eye out for them on Facebook and on their website! Their store also has an abundance of colorful and clearly written signs advertising their specials of the day. To me, it adds a level of excitement when I enter.
Also, if you are looking for a quick bite, they always have great sandwich specials at very modest prices.
FYI, for the first time this past Thanksgiving, we bought a fresh organic turkey and decided to get it from Jim's. Yes it was more expensive than the frozen generic you would get at Woodmans or other supermarket. But I was promised it would be like night and day. It was. What a difference.
I do not know of any other local butcher who does as well as Jim's. Jim's leaves all other butchers we have used - Jacobson's, Woodmans, Hy-Vee, etc. - - in the dust. Nice selection, clean, helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and modestly priced.
They also have good parking and a very clean and brightly lit store. Definitely worth a drive to Madison's north side.
