| - Finding a brunch spot on a weekend is always a fun game for me. While I'm willing to wait up to 2 hours, my dining companions are usually not.
After option 1 didn't work out, we decided on Three Speed for brunch. Since it's a tad west, we figured it wouldn't be too busy. We guessed right and scored a seat on their patio right away. The patio furniture wasn't great, but for the short time we were there, it served its purpose.
The coffee (large bodum) was excellent - well, if you like thick, strong coffee, which I do. The grapefruit juice was just okay. The serving is small. Food was incredible. The majority of the group ordered the scramble of the day. It was everything I could have hoped for in a brunch: not too eggy or carby, hot and served in smallish bite-sized pieces, vegetables were involved, savoury (not sweet).
A few in the crew followed-up with the cinnamon coffee cake for dessert. This was the star of the show. I expect most coffee cakes to be dry (i.e. make you choke), but this one was moist.
The only issue with this place was our waitress. She was kinda not great. It was a challenge to get her attention each time. She definitely wasn't interested in serving us. Luckily, we weren't in a hurry that day.
Note: you cannot order the Monte Cristo at brunch!
