Crosspit, the name of the class intrigued me so I decided to check it out. Upon arriving there are two entry doors to the business. One is for Sin City Crossfit and the other door is for The Pit. They both lead you into the same facility and front desk area. Once you enter the actual gym area one side is clearly a crossfit gym while the other side is set up for MMA and boxing. The Crosspit class I attended took place on a Friday with about six other people in class. Unlike some of the other gyms I have attended for group training I was introduced to the instructor before class and told a little bit about what to expect so that was nice.
The first half of the class was a warm up on the padded floor. I'm not sure of the proper name for MMA flooring but no shoes were worn for any part of class to protect it. The warm up consisted of high knees, butt kicks, lunges, burpees, etc. After that we headed to the bags where we did a variety of kicks and punches along with what seemed to me more MMA type moves. The next half of the class was where the Crossfit influence came in. This portion was written on a whiteboard AMRAP style for 25 minutes. This included burpees, ring pushups, walking lunges and a few other exercises. I also thought it was cool that the instructor took the class along with us as well as instructing. Obviously, he provided guidance and modifications as needed. The other members were also very helpful before, during and after class. Strong and Mitts are also classes on the schedule that I look forward to trying in the future.
