Another good 6 night stay at Silverton. Mi Casa & Twin Creeks are still great dining choices overall, Sundance is still good (the Keno was lightning fast this trip too :-) . Room was very good as was service. I used their free airport & strip shuttle this trip, nice air conditioned van that makes several trips a day each way and saves you the cost/hassle of a taxi, nice touch!
Resort fees waived in August is a nice touch, permanently kicking resort fees to the curb and following Caesars lead would be a very welcome move!
Over the last 3 years I've stayed here 21 nights.
THE GOOD
* Good odds in the casino
* Good to great service at the bars
* Decent - good restaurants (Mi Casa & Twin Creeks are quite good)
* Airport & Strip shuttle is great
* Staff is very helpful and friendly
* Decent players card comps
* Monster Bass Pro shop if you're into that
* Great video poker. Shady Grove is my go to VP
THE BAD
* No poker room. They made a 1/2 ass try at one, gave up and made it a gift shop
* Some of the older rooms are pretty dated (but I think upgrades are in progress)
* Pretty bad getting a taxi from here a lot of the time
* Far from strip & downtown (which wouldn't be so bad if you could get a taxi)
* Resort fee blows. $7.50 a night for nothing. Local phone calls & "FREE" shuttle
* Plumbing was very bad in many rooms I stayed in...gurgling drains & some backups
I've enjoyed my visits to Silverton over the last 3 years. The jacuzzi suite's were nice, and I only had less than perfect rooms maybe twice. With the poker room gone and the pain in the ass getting a taxi I'll likely have no choice but to stay at more convenient properties with or closer to poker rooms. For locals who play Video Poker or Slots, Silverton is still an excellent choice. For savvy visitors who don't need the strip or poker it's a pretty good choice too.
While circumstance may dictate fewer Silverton visits, I've really enjoyed the place in the last 3 years. Thanks!
***UPDATE*** Stayed for 4 1/2 days in late Feb/13. Service was beyond excellent. The great news is they look to be making another stab at a poker room. Although it's not yet open, the table and signs were there hinting that it may be open soon! Brand new Sportsbook right next to poker room has a wall of huge tv's and 20-25 gambling stations. Restaurants constantly being updated, hat's off to Silverton for always working at being better!
