  • I've lived in Cornelius for 27 yrs and anytime I've been to Ace Hardware its been a decent experience....UNTIL this last one. Unreal and unacceptable. This Saturday at 540pm I called to inquire if they stocked an item and was told by a man, yes, we have two brands in stock. But we close in 20 minutes. I broke my tail about to rush over to Ace and upon arriving the door was locked and a girl behind the counter says we're closed. A young guy sweeping comes up and says we're closed sorry. I say but its not 6 yet its 552pm. It says on the door 6pm plus I just talked to Paul about an item and rushed up here. He says we dont have anyone by that name here. A manager by the name of Lisa approaches to unlock the door to inform me she's so sorry but has already closed the register. I told her its 552 and you're supposed to be open until 6, I just talked to an employee. Another older man steps close and I ask him are you the one I talked to named Paul. Yes he says but its not my fault, raising his hands in the air. Bottom line, the manager decided to close early without regard to posted hours and evidently not paying attention or caring as to who just called 7 minutes earlier. She repeatedly said I'm sorry oh I'm sorry. I say well if you're sorry I guess that makes up for busting my ass to get up here and abusing my car to get there quick. This type practice is absurd and if I was the owner paying someone to be open until 6pm, somebodys head would be rolling. Following up two days later when I contacted one of the owners.....which made it worse. First I was told the excuse of ...we have some people call and say they're on the way and never show up and we stand there for nothing. Told her that had zero to do with me and I wasn't 'some people' she referred to. Then she tried another excuse of....right after you called our computers started messing up and the register went out. Please...admit it, your staff screwed a customer and closed early. If you patronize a local business this is what you get and when you deal with a bigger chain company, they sincerely apologize and make it right. She asked to make it right so I inquired as to offering a discount, but no she says, I just don't have hardly any markup on anything we sell here. Ridiculous as everyone knows you pay more at Ace Hardware than at Lowes. Bottom line.....bad enough for the initial experience, then to top that, the owner completely was absurd in dealing with it and making ridiculous excuses. First time I've ever had such a pitiful excuse of customer service at this place. And the last time also. Maybe the owner is a Jew not sure but she could have made up for the sorry experience but chose not to.
